Each month we update core, themes and plugins on a staging copy first, run a visual regression check to make sure nothing has quietly shifted on the page, and only then release to production. Daily off-site backups are checked rather than assumed, and a monthly restore test proves they work. Should the worst happen, malware cleanup is part of the plan rather than an unexpected emergency invoice.
